Isfahan, Iran
Certificate of Authenticity
Persian — Isfahan, Iran
Description
A circular plate organised through a central figural scene and a structured enclosing border. The engraved field depicts two courtly figures beneath a flowering tree, accompanied by a bird, set within a dense vegetal surround that defines and contains the scene.
The outer register is articulated through repeating lobed reserves, each enclosing architectural views. These panels are held within a continuous band, establishing a measured rhythm around the perimeter while maintaining separation from the central field.
Engraving is precise and consistent across both registers. The darkened ground contrasts with the exposed copper, producing a stable tonal interplay that reinforces the legibility of the composition.
Context
Persian metalwork from Isfahan integrates figural narrative within controlled surface systems. Centralised scenes are framed by ordered borders, with each register distinct in content yet unified in execution.
The balance between narrative detail and structural clarity is maintained through the organisation of the surface into clearly defined zones.
